Melissa McCarthy Reacts to Barbra Streisand’s Weight Loss Medication Comment
Gossip & Rumors

Melissa McCarthy isn’t letting Barbra Streisand‘s social media snafu get to her.

Earlier this week, Streisand recently raised eyebrows with a public inquiry about whether McCarthy is taking Ozempic, a type 2 diabetes drug sometimes used for weight loss. She later deleted the comment on Instagram and McCarthy is now addressing the remark.

In defense of Streisand, the Bridesmaids star took to Instagram and held up a magazine featuring the 82-year-old icon on the cover. McCarthy expressed her delight at Streisand’s acknowledgment of her, captioning the post with a nod to the legendary singer’s fan club, saying, “@barbrastreisand fan club members only!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

“The takeaway — Barbra Streisand knows I exist? She reached out to me. And she thought I looked good. I win the day,” McCarthy said in the video.

Streisand also took to her social media on Tuesday to offer an explanation for the comment she left on her good pal, McCarthy‘s, Instagram post, where she’s seen in a pastel-colored outfit alongside choreographer and producer Adam Shankman.

The comment read, “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?” The message went viral before Streisand could delete it.

On her Instagram Story, Streisand explained that she got confused after going on her profile to upload photos of some beautiful flowers.

“OMG – I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday! Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”

Before posting to Instagram, McCarthy reacted to Streisand’s faux pax in a video obtained by TMZ. When asked if Streisand’s comment was out of line, McCarthy said, “I think Barbra is a treasure and I love her.”

Before her explanation, some fans speculated Streisand meant to send a direct message and not drop a comment. One fan wrote under Streisand’s comment, “I think Barbara thought it was a dm.”

After tweeting her explanation, fans defended Streisand for what was clearly an honest mistake.

“That’s what I thought. She thought it was a private message. It’s not that big of a deal,” one person replied to Streisand’s tweet.

Another wrote, “We understand what you mean, Barbra; no need to explain. Media love to make a big deal out of any small thing.”
