Alanis Morissette sang the Canadian and US national anthems at the Stanley Cup final last night (June 24).

The Canadian singer-songwriter performed renditions of ‘O Canada’ and ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ ahead of Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers’ NHL showdown. You can view footage of both below.

The Panthers went on to beat the Oilers 2-1 in Florida to take the series after seven matches. It was their first championship win.

Her performance came after Morissette’s daughter, Onyx, celebrated her eighth birthday by joining her mother on stage to sing her classic hit ‘Ironic’ in Nashville on Sunday night (June 23).

Introducing Onyx onstage at the Bridgestone Arena, Morissette led the crowd in singing ‘Happy Birthday’.

The pair then joined forces to sing ‘Ironic’. Following the performance, which you can view below, the singer-songwriter posted on Instagram: “Birthday angel girl moment singing ironic together i love you so much onyx you are my dream daughter.”

Morissette is currently in the middle of her ‘Triple Moon Tour’, with special guest Joan Jett and the Blackhearts which is due to wrap in August.

She will next perform at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte tonight (June 26). Any remaining tickets can be purchased here.

Elsewhere, Morissette recently discovered that her great-uncles – Gyorgy and Sandor Feuerstein – died in the Holocaust.

The singer-songwriter was also aware that her grandfather, Imre Feuerstein of Hungarian and Jewish decent, was a Holocaust survivor and relocated his family – including Morissette’s then-six-year-old mother – from the Soviet Union to Ontario, Canada in 1953.

Speaking about what her ancestors had gone through, she said: “There’s just so much intense stuff happening. You think about their resilience and their ability to keep going in the face of tragedy, it’s pretty poignant.”
