Christian conservative leader wants federal law to sue teachers who “groom” kids with “sodomy”

Janet Porter, founder of Faith2Action — an anti-LGBTQ+ group that has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center — says she had drafted a national “Don’t Say Gay” bill that would allow anyone to sue a teacher or librarian who helps “transvestites” and the “alphabet mafia” to “groom” students with material supporting “pedophilia” and “sodomy.”

“I had been praying for years, ‘How do we address the alphabet mafia?’ You know, the LGBTQRSTD. How do we go after that and get it out of our schools? We can actually take out the grooming, we take out the pedophilia, the sodomy, it’s all listed in this bill,” Porter said during a session at the National Association of Christian Lawmakers’ National Policy Conference held in early June at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

“What if, instead of us putting out all these fires in this library and in this school and in this county, what if we stopped it at the source?” she continued. “Essentially, we’ve got a bill that says if Johnny or Susie comes home with any material that violates this long list of anything from pedophilia to grooming to the LGBT agenda, then guess what? They are opening themselves up to a lawsuit.”

She explained that she based her bill on a controversial Texas law that allows anyone to sue people who facilitate an abortion. The Texas law allows people who sue to seek $10,000 from the person they’re suing. She said she worked on her bill with the help of Jonathan Mitchell, the right-wing attorney behind the Texas abortion law, Right Wing Watch reported.

“Whether you are a teacher, whether you are a librarian, or whether you are an advisor to the gay club in school, whether you are someone who brings in an outside speaker, or the outside speaker, we’re going to be able to say, if there is grooming, a lawsuit is looming,” she added.

“This addresses the transvestites, the Drag Queen Story Hour, the outside speaker that they bring in from GLAAD or from Planned Parenthood or from whatever the name they pick for the latest homosexual activist group,” she said.

In the past, Porter and her group have advocated for so-called ex-gay conversion therapy, calling homosexuality “an individual choice.” She has blamed same-sex marriage for causing natural disasters like Noah’s Flood, which—if it did happen as described in the Bible—occurred tens of thousands of years before the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has voiced support for a national “Don’t Say Gay” law. Such laws may violate federal free speech protections and have been found to contribute to anti-LGBTQ+ hostility in schools.

Christian activists have admitted that the real goal behind “Don’t Say Gay” laws is to get parents to sue public schools and distrust public educators so that legislators may re-direct taxpayer funds to religious charter schools that can refuse enrollment to any students for any reason.
