Many want to know what happened to Sid Wilson, the DJ for heavy metal band Slipknot, after he released pictures and videos of burns on his face. Also the boyfriend of Kelly Osbourne, the 47-year-old turntablist goes by #0 in the band. Through various interviews and several posts on his Instagram, where he’s better known as @sidthe3rd, WIlson reveals how he rather embarrassingly got the burn scars across his face and arms.

How did Sid Wilson get facial burns?

WIlson received burns on his face due to a bonfire explosion after he attempted light a wood burn pile of debris with gas. He says that his face, as a result, was “basically melted from nose down.”

As the DJ explained in an interview with Fox News Digital, he was at his farm in Iowa, where he lives with Kelly and their son Sidney, when he decided to check on the pile he let burn down over a few days. “There was a certain amount of debris around the side still left,” he said, “So I, like a dummy, [did] what I’m not supposed to do, but I added some gas to it.”

Wilson knew that he should have used a long branch to light the pile, but his “lack of patience” got the better of him. He chose to squad down near the debris and light it, without realizing that some of the leftover gas was still in the vicinity. He explains, “it was really humid out so there was still a lot of vapors lingering around in there, and it just… woof. Exploded.”

Fortunately, Wilson was still able to reach his home where Osbourne was and he was rushed to a hospital in Des Moines. Doctors bandaged both of his arms and were able to treat his burns, which has healed well over a few days of recovery. While he’s not “depressed” over what happened, he says “the hardest part is just feeling stupid for doing it.”
