Bring Me The Horizon are celebrating one billion streams, and are on course to top the UK album charts.

The Sheffield rockers were confirmed as having hit the first milestone yesterday (October 1), when they revealed that they had surpassed one billion streams in the UK. To mark the occasion, frontman Oli Sykes was presented with a Billion Award by the BRITs.

Taking to X/Twitter to mark the landmark occasion, the BRITs posted a photo of the frontman with the trophy along with the caption: “Following their first ever BRIT Awards win earlier in the year for Best Rock/Alternative Act, @bmthofficial receive their BRIT Billion Award for hitting one billion streams in the UK.”

It comes as no surprise that the band managed to achieve the award this year, as their latest studio album ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ arrived in May and went on to become one of their biggest releases to date. As reported by Kerrang!, the record saw Sykes and co. garner over 70million streams, as well as making Bring Me The Horizon “‘the most streamed rock band on the planet” during the week of release.

While it arrived officially earlier this year, BMTH reignited excitement for the record once again last week, when they confirmed the release of some elaborate physical editions of ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’.

Thanks to the latest release, the band are currently locked in a tight battle for the Number One position on the UK albums charts.

At the midweek mark, Shed Seven are currently leading the way on the charts with their seventh album ‘Liquid Gold’. The album marks their second album of 2024, with ‘A Matter Of Time’ topping the charts in January. With the latter, the accomplishment set an Official Charts record for the longest time between the release of a band’s debut album and their first Number 1 (29 years and three months).

At the time of writing, Sykes and co. are just 600 chart units behind and sitting in second place. If the growth continues thanks to the physical formats being shared, BMTH could secure the top position and secure their third Number One album. Upon its first release, the record marked the band’s fifth UK Top 10 album, peaking at Number Five.

Elsewhere on the charts this week are Ed Sheeran with the ‘+-=÷× (Tour Collection)’, Pale Waves’ fourth LP ‘Smitten’ and Maximo Park’s ‘Stream Of Life’.

Earlier this year, Sykes spoke to NME as part of our In Conversation series, and described what is at the core of ‘NEX GEN’. “The whole record is a battle between light and dark. It’s a constant battle throughout the record because that side is so much more easy to give in to,” he said.

“It’s harder to say, ‘I’m going to go on the long, hard, slow path to contentment’. The other side is so easy, sexy, and romantic. That first step is a lot harder, and you know you’re going to fail. Throughout the record there are multiple times where I fail. You’ve got to take charge of your own healing; you’ve got to do the work yourself’.”

In a four-star review of the album, NME wrote: “Few modern rock bands have made an album that is such a bombardment of sound and colour. Post-Jordan Fish, they continue to be what they’ve always been: a creative force that transcends the personalities of its individuals. It entirely justifies the four-year wait, which already feels like ancient history. Buckle up – because this is still BMTH’s world, and we’ll be living in it for quite some time yet.”

In other news, Bring Me The Horizon have been announced as performers for Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park 2025. They will join the likes of  Slipknot, Biffy Clyro, Sleep Token and more at the twin German festivals which are set to take place between June 6-8.
