Maggie Rogers has shared a new single called ‘In The Living Room’ – you can listen to it below.
The standalone song marks the singer-songwriter’s first material since she released her third and latest studio album, ‘Don’t Forget Me’, back in April.
In the wistful and emotionally-charged song, Rogers remembers the days when she was “so young and hungry“. “But I will always remember you/ When we were dancing in the living room,” she sings in the chorus.
“I wrote ‘In The Living Room’ in March 2023, a few months after writing ‘Don’t Forget Me’,” Rogers explained in a statement. “My co-writer/co-producer, Ian Fitchuk, and I were back in the studio and decided to try for one more song.”
She continued: “Like so much of the album, it’s a song about the beauty and pain of memory, and the way that interweaves with reality when you’re processing the exit of a person in your life.
“Ultimately, ‘Don’t Forget Me’ as an album is about how we remember people, and the stories we tell ourselves in the process of creating new realities.”
‘In The Living Room’ is accompanied by a poignant official music video, directed by Grant Singer (The Weeknd, Sam Smith). Tune in above.
Rogers is set to begin her first-ever North American arena tour in Austin, Texas tonight (October 9). The trek will run until early next month, and includes two gigs at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Find any remaining tickets here.
Last month, the musician played two headline shows at the Hackney Empire and opened for Coldplay at their recent concerts in Dublin.
In a four-star review of ‘Don’t Forget Me’, NME described the album as “a meticulously crafted homage to the road trip”.
It added: “[…] Final track ‘Don’t Forget Me’ is all the more poignant, conjuring the bittersweet feeling of reaching a familiar destination after a long drive. As the promises of the open road dissolve into familiarity, it’s a return to real life and a final acceptance of the inevitability of endings.”
