Megan Thee Stallion is set to open up about the Tory Lanez shooting incident in her new documentary film.

It comes as the Texas-born singer and rapper shared the trailer for her highly anticipated film, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, which is set to chronicle her life and career up until now.

In the new two-minute preview, the teaser gives fans an idea of the kind of topics the artist – real name Megan Pete – is set to open up about in the project. These include the loss of her mother, dealing with hate online and the infamous shooting incident involving Tory Lanez.

The latter refers to how Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison last August for shooting Megan. The incident took place in 2020, when the singer and rapper was shot in both feet by Lanez after attending a party.

“I wouldn’t be here without my mum […] I was like ‘When I’m older I really want to be like that’. That’s when I really started creating Megan Thee Stallion. That’s when I was my happiest,” Megan says in the trailer, going on to discuss how things changed after her mother’s death.

Discussing the shooting incident in the clip, she says: “That’s when I started getting the backlash. The shooting, the betrayal. I was definitely getting a little too engulfed in social media.

“I want people to understand how this is affecting me. I want people to see how I feel,” she says at one point.” Watch the full trailer below.

News of the documentary film first arose in 2022, when Roc Nation and Time Studios first announced they were working with the ‘Hiss’ singer on a new project.

Set for release on October 31 via Amazon Prime Video, a previous press release for the film read: “The documentary will provide viewers with an intimate perspective into Megan’s life and career. From delving into Megan’s upbringing in Texas to chronicling key milestones in her career, the project will shed light on the many facets of the Houston native’s multilayered personality.

“With a mix of rare archival footage and fresh verité video, the documentary will highlight Megan’s rise from viral freestyling phenom to iconic cultural powerhouse. Beyond amplifying the Houston native’s journey to success, the project will also touch on how Megan overcame various personal hurdles to thrive in her professional career.”

Lanez – real name Daystar Peterson – was found guilty of all three charges pegged against him: one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm; one count of carrying a concealed, loaded, and unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and one charge of discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

In April, Megan Thee Stallion – real name Megan Pete – issued a “final” response over the incident. In her response, she reflected on the “humiliation” she faced from the public when coming forward with the claims.

More recently, released her third studio album, ‘Megan’, this year, closed out a UK and European tour with a five-star concert at the O2, and most recently hosted and performed at the MTV VMAs.

In a four-star review of ‘Megan’, Karen Gwee wrote for NME: “All facets of Megan Thee Stallion have been on display throughout her career, from freestyles to mixtapes to studio albums. But they’ve not sounded this cohesive together till now (yes, even ‘Worthy’, with its self-empowerment mantra of a chorus and peppy pop-guitar beat). When the sizzling guitar solo rings out on ‘Cobra’, it escorts us out of the album – and heralds a fearless new era for Megan Thee Stallion.”
