Adele has revealed that she has lost some of her hearing in one ear after battling an infection.
The singer opened up about the illness while on stage as part of her Las Vegas residency, taking a moment in the show to explain the ordeal to the audience.
Speaking at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace over the weekend, she reportedly told the crowd (via MailOnline): “I have an ear infection, which is pretty grim. I’ve never had one before. It’s the most painful thing that’s ever, ever happened to me.”
“It was worse than childbirth. It’s a rare water bacteria. It’s very hard to treat,” she added, going on to explain how the road to recovery hadn’t been smooth. “I was on the wrong antibiotics for a few days and they managed to give me one that started to work. I wanted to chop my ear off a few times.
“I’m no longer in pain, which is great but I’m a bit deaf in my left ear.”
Only a handful of dates remain on the ‘Weekends With Adele’ run of Vegas shows, with the final coming on November 23. After that, the singer has said she will be going on an indefinite hiatus, which caused tickets for the final show to skyrocket in price, with some going for over £18,000.
Since kicking off the latest leg of the Caesars Palace shows, the ‘Chasing Pavements’ singer has already made headlines for the heartfelt moment when she spotted Celine Dion in the crowd. The Colosseum venue was originally built for Dion’s residency back in 2003.
Over the summer, Adele also played a 10-date residency at the purpose-built Messe Munchen arena in Munich. During one show, she took a moment to praise Chappell Roan, calling the rising singer “absolutely amazing”. “She is spectacular, and it turns out, she’s not just got one song,” she said. “She’s got, like, seven fucking brilliant songs.”
She then confirmed her engagement to Rich Paul live on stage and performed her 2008 single ‘Chasing Pavements’ for the first time in seven years. At another gig, she paused the set to stream the semi-final and final of the women’s 100m Olympic races.
