Ultimately, an old friend, Captain Peggy Carter, comes to the rescue.
Here’s the What If…? Season 3 ending explained.
Does Captain Peggy Carter die at the end of What If…? Season 3?
Yes, Captain Peggy Carter dies at the end of What If…? Season 3.
The final episode begins with a flashback to the time when the Watcher, Uatu, took his oath to preserve the natural order of things by only observing it. In the present, Uatu faces a trial for the purported violation of the oath. Peggy, voiced by Hayley Atwell, tries to rescue him with the help of Kahhori, Byrdie, and Storm while Infinity Ultron attacks the Eminence, and his two fellow Watchers: the Incarnate and the Executioner.
Uatu and the heroes try to flee to the Strange Supreme’s new universe, where they know that the Watchers will not have any powers. However, the three Watchers quickly defeat Infinity Ultron and stop the escape of Uatu and his allies. A fierce battle ensues between the two groups. Uatu realizes that they are no match for the Eminence, Incarnate, and Executioner and in a desperate move, decides to share his powers with Peggy, Kahhori, Byrdie, and Storm by guiding them through the Watchers’ oath.
With their new abilities, the heroes overpower the Watchers, prompting the latter group to merge into one entity. When they try to destroy all variations of the heroes across the universe, Peggy sacrifices herself to protect her friends. With her powers, she sends the Watchers, Uatu, Kahhori, Byrdie, and Storm to Strange Supreme’s universe.
Afterward, Peggy’s friends hold her funeral on the Observational Plane. While this confirms her death, the series becomes somewhat philosophical as the heroes discuss the prospects of the Afterlife, Uatu observes that for the first time, he feels someone is watching over him.
Does the Eminence die at the end of What If…? Season 3?
No, the Eminence doesn’t die at the end of What If…? Season 3.
As mentioned above, he and the other Watchers are transported to Strange Supreme’s universe, where their powers don’t work. Faced with such an unprecedented occurrence and the fact that he didn’t see it coming, the Eminence eventually embraces humility. When Uatu offers him to teach the lessons he has learned from the people he has watched over, the Eminence accepts.
