Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons comes out as bisexual using iconic moment from the show

Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons skyrocketed to fame through her adorable portrayal of Lily, the sassy young daughter of gay couple Mitch and Cam, on the hit show Modern Family.

Anderson-Emmons was only four years old when she began playing the iconic character. Now 18, she recently expressed her excitement for Pride Month by coming out as bisexual – and she used a scene from Modern Family to do it.

“People keep joking abt me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi),” Anderson Emmons wrote on the video of her lip syncing the lines. She added in the caption, “happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe.”

The comments section was chock-full of delighted fans loving the full-circle moment.

Modern Family ended in April 2020 after 11 seasons, 22 Emmy Awards, and 12 Golden Globe nominations. The show’s portrayal of Mitch, Cam, and Lily as a typical family was considered monumental when it first aired in 2009. At the time, only a handful of states had legalized marriage equality. By season five, Mitch and Cam got married, and the series ended with them leaving for Missouri with their now-teen daughter and newborn son after Cam got offered a coaching job.

The show also made waves in 2016 for casting a trans child actor to play a trans child on a playdate with Lily.
