Transgender actress and social media influencer Kevin Ninh shared a video of the heartwarming moment she came out to her grandma and asked to be referred to with she/her pronouns.

The video is short, sweet, and simple, with Ninh’s grandma modeling how uncomplicated it can be to accept someone for exactly who they are.

“You want me to call you she?” the grandma asks.

“I go by she/her now,” Ninh confirms.

“So I have two grandaughters?” the grandma clarifies. “Is that okay?”

Ninh becomes visibly elated at how easily her grandma understands this. “That is okay,” she says. “Is that okay with you?”

“Why not?” she instantly replies. “Whatever makes you happy.” The pair get up and hug, and Ninh’s grandma again states, “As long as you’re happy.”

The video has garnered hundreds of thousands of views, with commenters praising the grandma’s unconditional love.

“That’s how simple, effortless and joyful coming out should be,” one person wrote.

“This gives me so much hope,” said another.

“I wish all families loved their children this way,” a third user added.

Ninh – who has been building her social media presence for 13 years – officially came out as trans to her millions of followers in June and has since been documenting her transition in her Diaries of a Doll web series.

She recently spoke with People about the incredible reaction from her grandma.

“I wasn’t able to come out to my mom as she passed from ovarian cancer in 2018, so having my grandma have such a positive experience fulfilled that motherly support for me,” she said. “I also think it’s cool how a woman in her 80s, from a generation and culture that was more traditional, understood and supported it in seconds.”

Ninh said she knew she was ready to transition when “the thought of transitioning excited me more than making me nervous.”

“But I’m so blessed and grateful that everyone in my family loves and supports me and not a single person has any issue with me being trans,” she added.

When launching Diaries of a Doll, she said she looked to the way other creators have shared their transition journeys. “I wanted to be that role model for the next generation myself.”
