Kate Hudson Says She Took a Year Off From Men: ‘It Was Great’
Gossip & Rumors

Kate Hudson took a break from men!

On this week’s episode of Call Her Daddy, the 45-year-old actress/musician opened up about the year she gave up flirting and pursuing romantic relationships.

“I took like a full year off,” she told host Alex Cooper on Wednesday’s episode. “But it was great.”

Hudson shared that in her 30s she decided to do the exercise at the advisement of her therapist to help her break the pattern of bad relationships.

“I was at that place where I was like, ‘I don’t want to keep repeating any patterns anymore,'” the Glass Onion actress said. “And I have a great therapist who was like, ‘I can help you but you have to, like, do it.'”

Hudson accepted the challenge. Over the course of the year, she couldn’t text guys or flirt — which is something she enjoyed. However, while it was uncomfortable, it was equally empowering.

“Strangely empowering, because it got very uncomfortable for me the first couple months,” she said. “My mojo was, I was like… just felt like, ‘What am I doing? I’m not me.'”

Hudson shared that after an emotional breakthrough with her therapist, she realized the benefit of letting go of all of the men distractions.

“I had this one sort of breakthrough that was very emotional that I don’t think I would have been able to access if I had any distractions,” she said. “It allowed me to see things much more clearly and then within six months I didn’t care about my phone. I didn’t care if I was going out with my girlfriend, like, I wonder if so and so is going to be there, or like, we should call up so and so and then do that.”

She added, “There was no desire for me to be doing anything that had anything to do with potential flirtation.”

After hitting the one-year mark, Hudson said that she did not have the same reaction to men texting her and her attraction to certain men went away. For the next three years, she lived life happily single.

“I was so happy single,” she said. “I was single for like three and a half years, I loved it.”

Hudson’s dating history includes Owen Wilson, Dax Shepard, Alex Rodriguez and a rumored fling with Nick Jonas. Hudson was married to The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson from 2000-2007. Together, they share son Ryder Robinson, 20.

Hudson was also engaged to Muse singer Matt Bellamy from 2011-2014. The pair are parents to 12-year-old Bingham.

According to the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star, the time also opened her heart to being with her now-fiancé, Danny Fujikawa.

“If I didn’t do that, I would have never ended up with Danny,” she told Cooper. “Because Danny, he’s such a good man, and I’m not so sure I was attracted to the good man. The uncomplicated. I liked the feisty, wild type. Where Danny has that in him, his values are very sturdy and he’s such a lovely person. I would have never allowed that in if I didn’t take those three years being so happy in my life alone.”

She added, “He’s really cute…honestly, I’m so happy,” she gushed.

Hudson and Fujikawa, 37, got engaged in September 2021 after five years of dating. Together, the couple shares a daughter, Rani, 5.

In November 2022, the “Talk About Love” singer spoke to ET and revealed why she isn’t in a rush to tie the knot with the musician.

“I mean, I love that man. He’s right over there, hiding, but the last thing we’re doing right now during the holidays is planning anything but the holidays,” she said at the time. “Yeah, we’re in no hurry.”
