Pom Poko have shared a new single, ‘Growing Story’ and announced a UK tour for later this year.

The “grungy and heavy-hitting” track is the latest cut to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album ‘The Champion’, which will be released August 16 via Bella Union.

Commenting on the track Pom Poko said: “On this album we wanted to explore simplifying our sound and make some songs a bit more grungy and heavy-hitting. ‘Growing Story’ came out of that process.

“This song and its title is kind of describing the themes on this record: growing up, whatever that means, and finding yourself in a place where you realise you can contain a lot of different stuff at the same time.”

“It feels like we’re maturing and growing up together,” explained Ragnhild Fangel Jamtveit when speaking about the new album. “By the time this album comes out, we’ll have been a band for eight years. It’s like we’re evolving. When you’re not grinding with the band all the time, you gain an appreciation for what you’ve built. It’s like a very weird and really lovely little gang to hang out in. I almost feel like we’re superheroes—it’s like being a part of Powerpuff Girls.”

“We’re at the point where we can work, like, telepathically,” continued  drummer Ola Djupvik. “While making the album, we talked very little in the studio, and there was very little artistic intention that we had to convey to each other. Everyone knew what they were supposed to do. Maybe when we’re trying to communicate with a producer, we tend to cram in a lot of ideas, whereas now it’s like, ‘This is the song.’”
