Perrie Edwards has opened up about her friendship split with former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson.

The singer has been teasing a new song about a past friendship following on from her debut single ‘Forget About Us’. Although Edwards has not specified exactly who the song is about, she has opened up to Cosmopolitan about her particularly significant ex-friendship with Nelson in a new interview.

Nelson originally left Little Mix in 2020 as the pressure of being in the band had “taken a toll on my mental health”.

Now, Edwards has revealed she and Nelson “don’t talk, and haven’t done for a long time,” adding: “It’s really sad, it’s heartbreaking.”

“But sometimes these things happen and people decide they want to part ways, and that’s absolutely fine. I would rather it went differently, but you can’t control how things go.’”

Edwards went on to say that being in the award-winning girl group was “the happiest time of my life”, adding: “All we did was laugh together, banter together, cry together.

“It was so much fun. Yes we went through a lot in those 10 years, but we had each other.”

Speaking previously about her song about a past friendship with Zach Sang, Edwards has admitted she “can’t even listen to that song without crying

“It is about them and how, just no matter what, we didn’t see eye to eye,” she added. “There was no communicating there, it’s a really sad song. I hope one day we can connect again and it can be good, but right now it’s just not, it wasn’t good.”

Edwards said she was open to reconnecting with the song’s subject but didn’t know if they would be once they hear the track, as she’s “been very honest about the situation”. She also explained that the track includes some “home truths” about the person, saying: “Maybe it will help that person grow.”

Speaking to NME prior to the April 2024 release of ‘Forget About Us’, Edwards described the track as “anthemic – driving in the car with the roof down in the wind.”

Her upcoming album will also includes collaboration with Raye, who Edwards recently said was “the most talented human I’ve ever witnessed in the flesh.”
