Why Was Jada Arnell Hospitalized? Shooting Incident Explained hospitalized after getting shot

On Saturday, a woman shot DeSoto singer Jada Arnell Thomas while she signed autographs after her performance at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) in downtown Dallas.

The incident occurred following a 3 p.m. matinee of The Bitches, a theatrical production in which Thomas co-starred alongside Lucki Azariah and K Woods. A bullet struck the 26-year-old singer and actress in the chest, and paramedics immediately transported her to a local hospital, where doctors report she is in stable condition.

Authorities arrested 26-year-old Micah Williams in connection with the shooting. Dallas police reported that Williams experienced a “mental health episode” when she allegedly fired her gun at Thomas (via Dallas Observer). She now faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remains in the Dallas County jail on $200,000 bail.

TBAAL’s founder and president, Curtis King, shared on social media that Thomas is “going to be okay.” He expressed dismay over the incident, noting, “It was a packed house; people were in line getting autographs, and we heard this shot. It was unreal, like everything was in slow motion.”

King announced a series of “enhanced safety measures” for the venue, including increased screening processes and limiting entry points to help prevent weapons from entering. “For 48 years, TBAAL has proudly maintained a tradition of safe, family-oriented events and a welcoming environment,” King wrote (via NBC News). “As we move forward, our mission to enrich the community through arts remains unwavering.”

It remains unclear whether Thomas and Williams knew each other, and police have not revealed a specific motive. The investigation is ongoing.
