A pollster specializing in women voters said she is “seeing sirens” for the GOP as women indicate a massive decrease in support for the party.
Christina Matthews, who conducts polls for Bellwether Research and Consulting, spearheaded a survey of 1,604 women ages 18 and over and found increasing support for the Democratic Party. The survey took place on August 21 and 22 and, as such, is very up to date.

Matthews told Politico that one of the most alarming findings for the GOP is that white women favored Democrats 47 percent to 39 percent. In the past two House elections, this demographic has favored Republicans – 55 percent to 44 percent in 2024 and 53 percent to 45 percent in 2022.
The poll also found Democrats tied with Republicans among married women. In 2024 and 2022, married women favored House Republicans by 13 percent and 22 percent, respectively.

“When I look at those numbers, I am seeing sirens,” said Matthews.
Matthews also found that the president has only a 32% approval rating among women of voting age, with 25% of women who voted for him now disapproving of him. The majority of survey respondents said they oppose tariffs (63%), oppose building the White House Ballroom (68%), are against breaking the MMR vaccine into 3 shots (55%), oppose the building of data centers in their states (61%), and are against increasing production of the herbicide Glyphosate (53%) – all issues the current administration has prioritized.
51% of women respondents also said they oppose ICE deportations, but 76% of Republican women strongly support them.
The survey also asked respondents to rank issues in order of importance. “Economy/cost of living” was the most prioritized, with 38% calling it the most pivotal issue for them. 17% said their main concern was “Healthcare, Medicare and Social Security,” and 11 percent said “Democracy, Government and Rule of Law.”
Matthews told Politico that it’s clear women notice the president isn’t paying attention to what Americans actually say they need.
“Trump spins everything. The reflecting pool was the result of vandals. Whatever is wrong in the world is Biden’s fault. If gas is over $4 a gallon, and everyone knows the war in Iran and also tariffs, that’s Trump’s fault. And the grocery prices — and again, this is really grocery prices — are still high for people, and now Trump owns it.”
