Practical Magic, a film that was released in 1998, finally received a sequel in 2026. Now, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman have delivered an update on when fans can expect Practical Magic 3 – or should they expect it at all.
In an interview with The New York Times, Kidman and Bullock sat down with sequel co-stars Maisie Williams and Joey King, where the actresses discussed their hopes for a third film.
When asked whether there was going to be a Practical Magic 3, Bullock was quick to point out that the material for the film exists. She said, “Absolutely. It warrants a third.” Kidman also agreed that a third film should happen. She said, ‘The biggest frustration was that [the sequel] couldn’t be longer and have more storylines. There were so many tangents we could have gone off on.”
How much money has Practical Magic 2 made at the box office?
A third Practical Magic film is going to come only if the studio can justify the cost of a third film. Which means that Practical Magic 2, which has opened to underwhelming numbers, is going to have to make its budget back and then some at the box office.
The film was released in theatres on September 10, 2026. Since then, the film has made $47.7 million at the box office worldwide. This is against its reported budget of $75 million. The debut weekend aimed at at least a $50 million payday for its debut weekend in North America, but those numbers have been barely reached under its current run. Assuming the 2.5x modifier for the marketing budget and theatrical cuts, the film is going to have to earn something to the tune of $188 million for the studio to turn a profit.
Short of that number, it is unlikely that Practical Magic 3 will happen, unless there is an immense fan campaign to make it happen.
