James Bond fans may have a reason to return to 007 First Light as soon as this week. Developer IO Interactive has teased a new free DLC coming. The game was released earlier this year to critical acclaim and sold over 4 million units in just three months.
Taking to social media, the game’s official accounts teased the DLC as “just around the bend,” asking fans to tune in to the official channels on October 1, 2026. IO Interactive did not spill what the DLC will include. The developer is well known for updating its existing games, like Hitman: World of Assassination, with plenty of new content over many years.
How 007 First Light reimagines James Bond’s early days
007 First Light tells an original story that reimagines Ian Fleming’s MI6 spy agent. Setting the series in the modern day, it tells a new origin story, diving into Bond’s induction into the agency fresh off the Royal Navy. After a botched mission, Bond is recruited by MI6 as a potential candidate for its revised 00 program under John Greenway’s mentorship. The plot follows Bond uncovering a conspiracy after losing a close friend.
The thrilling adventure takes players across several locations, including Iceland, London, Malta, Slovakia, Vietnam, and more. Like any classic James Bond adventure, the game also lets players utilize various high-tech gadgets in espionage missions.
Since its release, IO Interactive has also updated the game to utilize advanced path tracing on PC. Following its success, it’s likely that fans will get a sequel in the not-too-distant future, although one hasn’t been officially announced yet. The game features Patrick Gibson as James Bond, joined by Lenny Kravitz, Priyanga Burford, Lennie James, Kiera Lester, Gemma Chan, and more.
James Bond will return to the big screen later in October as Amazon MGM Studios will re-release Casino Royale. 007 First Light is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
