The New Jersey queer bar Pint fired its Wednesday night trivia host and donated all of this last trivia night’s proceeds to sexual violence prevention programs after the host awarded Best Team Name to a group called “Cornell 7 inches,” a reference to the seven Cornell University fraternity members accused of raping an intoxicated woman.

“I cannot believe someone would make light of something like this, and there were two teams of women there,” a commenter wrote on Reddit. “And as if that’s not bad enough, later on the host was announcing their score thus far and said ‘name is a little uncomfortable… but voted best name!’”

“i really thought gay men would be better but i guess not,” the commenter added. “safe to say we are not going again.”

In a video posted on Thursday, Wolf Sterling, the founder and owner of Pint, said, “When we came into work today, we found out that last night, without our knowledge, our trivia host awarded ‘best team name’ to a team that had a truly offensive name, a name that violates both how we want to treat our community and the standards we have for our business.”

Sterling mentioned that he immediately fired the trivia host and donated all of the bar’s profits from the night to sexual violence prevention programs. He also thanked community members who helped make him aware of what had happened at the trivia event.

“Our goal, and the goal we’ve had for 17 years running this bar, is to make it a safe, welcoming space for everyone,” Sterling added.

New Jersey Councilwoman Eleana Little praised the bar in a statement to NJ.com, saying, “This kind of behavior has no place in Jersey City. I strongly condemn sexual assault and those who would treat it as a joke.”

“It’s good to hear that the owners of Pint took swift action after learning of this incident. Accountability matters,” she added.

After hearing of Sterling’s actions, the Reddit commenter wrote, “i heard about the Pint owner‘s instagram post and really appreciate his response! i did not expect anything to come from this so i’m really glad they’re taking action!”
