Exclusive Interview
During Season 11 of Love Is Blind, fans were shocked to see Sarah Williams, a healthcare professional, say yes to John Shannon’s proposal after finding out about his conservative-leaning views on abortion and vaccines. When Sarah sat down with Swooon, she took us inside some of their conversations that viewers didn’t get to witness.
In the pods, John opened up about his MS (Multiple Sclerosis) diagnosis and explained, “I feel capitalism is injected into healthcare in our country. I feel like COVID really showed the worst side of it to me.” He then shared that he had COVID, and then felt forced to get the vaccine or else he would lose his job, even though he had “natural immunity.” As Sarah put it, “I work in a hospital… I feel like recently medicine gets a bad rep when it shouldn’t.”
Later, John told her, “I don’t at all think abortion should be illegal, but it’s a very sad thing. People will be like, ‘Well, what about this girl who’s 11 and she’s pregnant by her uncle. She doesn’t deserve to have an abortion?’ And it’s like, ‘Okay, that’s horrible.’ But why does that justify having an abortion at six months because you just never got around to it?”

In response, Sarah fired back, “The six-month thing? That’s where, from a healthcare perspective, I do think there’s a little misinformation as well. The number of women who do it late term, just because, it’s almost like nonexistently low… I hate that that’s used as an argument.”
According to Sarah, John wasn’t the only person she talked to about abortion and other healthcare matters. She explained, “I had conversations like that with every man that I was still talking to. Those conversations are very important to me. Of course, it’s hard to have those conversations, but I actually like enjoy them a lot. So I’m happy to have that conversation with anyone who’s willing to actually have the conversation with me.”
While John’s perspective was quite different than her own, she revealed that their conversation was far longer than what we saw. “Obviously, it looks like a shorter clip, but it was a very long conversation. He was very willing to listen. He was engaged in the conversation and asking questions.” As she put it, “It was a really productive conversation.”
However, now that they’ve left the pods together, Sarah’s made it clear that the tough subjects don’t end there. She explained that viewers can expect “a few more hard conversations,” adding, “and then a lot of laughing and fun, too.”
