Riding high on the success of ‘Resident Evil,’ which has earned more than $325 million at the global box office, writer/director Zach Cregger has found a big name to star in his next movie.

Warner Bros. has announced that Jennifer Lawrence (‘Silver Linings Playbook’) will take the lead for Cregger’s next title, science fiction thriller ‘The Flood.’

The Flood

Cregger has found success in the horror genre (especially with 2025’s ‘Weapons’) so sci-fi is something new for him.

Besides the star, filmmaker, genre and title, we know nothing about ‘The Flood.’ Crafty Mr. Cregger is keeping those details to himself.

But one potential logline has found its way online: “A deep-space exploration team aboard the Spiritus Mundi pick up a strange, recurring signal from a remote planet. Captain Elena Voss leads the mission to investigate, only to discover a bizarre alien artifact that starts warping time.”

Here’s Cregger on his latest planned pic:

“Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros/New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on ‘Weapons,’ and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.”

One small wrinkle… “Mike and Pam” are Mike DeLuca and Pam Abdy, who were indeed the WB heads of production when Cregger made ‘Weapons.’ They’ve since been shown the door by the incoming Skydance regime now the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. has closed. So: whole new team!
