What To Know

  • Season 1 of North of North ended with Siaja breaking up with her husband.
  • Siaja met her estranged father for the first time, and much of the season focused on their developing relationship.
  • The season concluded with Siaja learning that Neevee kept her paternity a secret.

North of North is gearing up for its Season 2 return to Netflix this November after more than a year. While the episodes have already aired on CBC in Canada, fans elsewhere may need a bit of a refresher when it comes to where things left off for Siaja (Anna Lambe) and crew in Ice Cove, Nunavut, a.k.a. the northernmost territory in Canada.

As viewers may recall, Siaja, an Inuk woman raising a young daughter with her then-husband Ting (Kelly William), is knocked overboard from a fishing boat, which delivers a vision about the reality of her situation: She’s not living her life to the fullest. She set out to change that by breaking up with Ting and taking on a job at the local community center.

Along the way, she met her father, Alistair (Jay Ryan), for the first time as he was visiting Ice Cove on a scientific research job alongside his assistant, Kuuk (Braeden Clarke). After some clarification from Siaja’s mother, Neevee (Maika Harper), who admitted she’d never told Alistair about Siaja, and vice versa, much of Season 1 focused on the father-daughter duo building their bond.

Additionally, Siaja began to fall for Kuuk, who, it turned out, had a girlfriend, who resurfaced moments after she drummed up the courage to kiss him at the local bar!

While Siaja’s efforts to make her own life were met with different challenges, she was on her way to finding that fulfillment, especially by taking on a big job at the community center that ultimately impressed her boss, Helen (Mary Lynn Rajskub), and landed her a promotion by Season 1’s end. While the surfacing of Kuuk’s girlfriend put her potential romance on the back burner, a rekindled fling between Alistair and Neevee was also unresolved after her distant attitude pushed him away.

As Siaja tried to learn more about the reason for her mother’s deflection, she discovered the true reason Neevee never told her about Alistair, and it’s because she had another daughter with a different man, who ultimately took the baby from her. Fearful of facing a similar fate, Neevee chose to keep Siaja a secret after Alistair left Ice Cove so many years ago.

Will Siaja find her sister and will potential romances blossom? Stay tuned for the return of North of North when it premieres on Netflix this fall.
