Following President Donald Trump’s third hospital visit in 13 months, physician and MS NOW medical analyst Vin Gupta told the media outlet Zeteo on Wednesday that one of Trump’s “chronic” conditions hints at a possible heart issue.
Speaking of Trump’s swollen ankles, Gupta said, “He has pretty noted lower extremity swelling. The White House claims that it’s chronic venous insufficiency.” Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition in which weak veins prevent blood from flowing efficiently back to the heart, causing blood to pool in the lower limbs. CVI can be caused by a lack of exercise, obesity, old age, genetics, and other factors.

“Is that a sign of aging?’ Gupta asked rhetorically. “Potentially.”
When asked whether Trump’s CVI could be a sign of congestive heart failure, a condition in which weakened heart muscles cannot pump blood efficiently throughout the body, Gupta responded, “Based on the readouts from his physicians, one could claim that that’s exactly what’s happening – sure, that could indicate that.”

Last March, lesbian political pundit Rachel Maddow publicly mocked Trump’s health, stating, “It’s not just that he’s the oldest person elected to the presidency, and he is obese, and he has gigantically swollen ankles, and he drags his leg. And he now puts more makeup on his hands than even what he puts on his face, and he puts so much on his face on a good day that he looks like he’s been well-embalmed.”
