Satirical comedian and activist Walter Masterson released a Pride Month video on Monday in which he mocks MAGA supporters at pro-Trump demonstrations by complaining about people “with these flags and hats” that they “wave around in people’s faces,” adding, “It’s become their entire personality.”

Many of the MAGA supporters agreed, thinking he was talking about LGBTQ+ people. But he was slyly commenting on Trump supporters who wear Trump and MAGA caps while waving large flags with Trump’s name and MAGA printed on them.

The video begins with a woman in a MAGA cap and a Jesus t-shirt saying, “[I’m] happy right now because I haven’t seen nearly as many rainbow flags and rubbish as we’ve seen last year.” Masterson’s cameraperson then showed her child wearing a red MAGA hat and holding two Israeli flags while Masterson said, “They’re making the kids wear these flags and these hats.”

“Yeah, absolutely,” she said, not noting the irony.

In another segment, a man in a MAGA hat said that the people looked at him “like I was Osama bin Laden” because he wore his MAGA hat on the flight.

“It’s become harder to be open about your identity nowadays, right?” Masterson said. “Yeah,” the man agreed. “People need to speak up. They need to say what they believe,” and added, “I’m a straight male, and I’m proud of that.”

In a final segment, Masterson gestured to his own MAGA apparel and asked an older male MAGA supporter, “I can’t wear a MAGA hat in some places because some people don’t like that identity. Can you imagine going someplace and being attacked just for your identity?”

The man replied, “That’s crazy.”

Masterson has long used his videos, satirical comedy, and social media presence to highlight the hypocrisy of anti-LGBTQ+ political figures.

In 2023, Masterson trolled the anti-LGBTQ+, pro-book-banning, “parents’ rights” extremist group Moms for Liberty by reading sexually violent passages from the Bible during a Pennsylvania school board meeting.

“This book is filled with overt sexual acts of violence, it celebrates mass killings, and it’s being used to indoctrinate our children,” Masterson said at the meeting. His speech pointed out the hypocrisy of pro-book-banning policies that seek to censor less explicit, LGBTQ+-inclusive texts while allowing the Bible to remain on school bookshelves.

In 2022, Masterson mocked a New York school board after it forced a teacher to take down a Pride flag in her classroom.

“As a patriot, I love freedom of speech,” he said while dressed in a U.S. flag shirt. “Except when it comes to Pride flags in schools, teaching history. There’s a whole list of books I want to ban from the school library. I want to ban kneeling in football games.”

In other instances, Masterson heckled Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) for voting to expand funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and he blasted an Oklahoma school board over the death of a nonbinary student.
