An LGBTQ+ community leader in Florida was arrested last Monday for allegedly misusing a nonprofit organization’s funds.
Greater Fort Lauderdale LGBT Chamber of Commerce’s former director, Jason Nunez, is accused of spending $11,097 of the organization’s funds on Uber rides, gas, and haircuts, according to police. They also accuse him of withdrawing cash from the Chamber’s account, the Sun Sentinel reports.

The funds were spent at Brightline, Target, Walmart, Shell, and a local barbershop in Wilton Manors. He allegedly used Zelle and Apple Cash to divert funds, and the Chamber cited one transfer of $7,500 “of unknown origin” to the Chamber’s account that was withdrawn in cash.
A police report said that Nunez used his business credit card at least daily starting in October 2025 and multiple times a day in December. The alleged misuse of funds stopped in January 2026 because the Chamber fired him.

Nunez filed a lawsuit against the Chamber for breach of contract, alleging that the Chamber didn’t pay him from October 2025 until he was fired. The Chamber denied the accusation.
He is currently employed by the Miami-Dade LGBTQ+ Allied Chamber of Commerce as their director of programming and external affairs. He was removed from their website last Wednesday.
Nunez entered a plea of not guilty on Monday and was released on bond on Tuesday. Neither he nor the chamber is commenting on his arrest.
