Mariska Hargitay answers if Taylor Swift could appear on Law & Order

Mariska Hargitay has repeatedly addressed whether Taylor Swift could appear on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The actress discussed the topic most recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and previously in an October 2024 interview with E! News. Both times, she acknowledged Swift’s packed schedule as the main obstacle.

During her Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, Hargitay was asked if Swift would appear on SVU. “I don’t know. Somehow I think she’s super busy. I don’t know,” Hargitay responded. She also revealed that the two recently sat courtside together at a New York Knicks game. Hargitay described the experience with humor, saying Swift “was throwing me around like a rag doll.”

Hargitay also shared details about attending Swift’s wedding. “I am still floating from that wedding. It was so spectacular and so intimate, I have to say,” she stated. She added that the ceremony exceeded her expectations despite the large guest list. “The vows were my favorite part of the whole wedding. It was that magical,” Hargitay said.

In her earlier October 2024 conversation with E! News, Hargitay left the door open. “We can certainly dream, can’t we?” she said about a potential Swift cameo. She then acknowledged the practical challenge, saying, “She’s very busy.” However, she made her personal stance clear by adding, “But I’m not letting it go.”

The two stars share a long history of mutual admiration. Swift named her pet cat Olivia Benson after Hargitay’s iconic SVU character. Hargitay has joined Swift on stage multiple times and identifies as a Swiftie. In 2015, Hargitay wrote an essay about Swift for TIME’s most influential people issue. She praised Swift’s character, writing, “She seems tuned in to the greater good.” Hargitay also joked in the essay, “It doesn’t hurt that she named her cat after me.”
