Trump’s new press secretary spread anti-LGBTQ+ conspiracy theories about “revolting, rabid” leftists

As the Trump administration’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, prepares to hold her first White House press briefing on Tuesday morning, online sleuths have uncovered her past social media posts that push conspiracy theories, including the debunked, anti-LGBTQ+ QAnon theory of Pizzagate.

Her now-deleted social posts include one advocating for suspending habeas corpus (due legal process) for arrested and detained individuals; a June 2025 post stating that the president should “take over all of California”; and an August 2025 link to an article falsely claiming that “8 in 10 women had a miscarriage after getting the COVID vaccine.”

In a recirculating video clip, Zacharia falsely stated that the abortion pill mifepristone contains the same chemicals used by Nazis in concentration camps.

In a September 15, 2025 post, Zacharia wrote, “The woke left screams, ‘cancel culture’ after their revolting, rabid and unhinged hatred spawned the political assassination of [MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk], the attempted assassination of [Donald Trump], at least a dozen school shootings by leftist transgender assailants — and they want what exactly? Tolerance? Too late. The left canceled itself.”

Zacharia is incorrect. Only about five school shooters have identified as trans between 2013 and 2025. The fact is, mass shooters are not disproportionately transgender, and the overwhelming majority of mass shootings are conducted by cisgender men.

She also posted numerous Truth Social posts that repeat claims made in Pizzagate, an anti-LGBTQ+ QAnon conspiracy theory that accused high-profile Democrats, leftists, and Hollywood elites of running a murderous and Satanic child sex trafficking ring in the non-existent basement of a gay-owned Washington DC pizzeria.

Zacharia made numerous posts accusing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign chairman John Podesta of being a “pedophile,” including posts with the hashtag #PedoPodesta. There is no evidence linking Podesta to any harm to children.

On September 4, 2022, Zacharia published a Truth Social post in which she wrote, “The radical left Hollywood elitists are sick pedo cannibals.” On April 8, 2022, she re-posted a message from anti-LGBTQ+ right-wing conspiracy theorist Ali Alexander, which said, “Democrats want to mask and rape your children. That’s their satanic platform.”

Zacharia also has a record of transphobic commentary on Fox News.

Zacharia currently works as a communications adviser to Trump Media and Technology Group, which runs the president’s social media platform Truth Social. She worked briefly as a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security during the tenure of then-Secretary Kristi Noem (who Trump fired after a tumultuous year and two months on the job).
