Cody Rhodes just dropped a major hint about his Marvel future during a Street Fighter press tour interview. The WWE star’s passionate defense of one specific X-Men character has reignited fan speculation about his potential role in the MCU reboot.

Cody Rhodes’ love for X-Men fuels casting rumors

WWE star Cody Rhodes reignited Marvel casting speculation during a new Nerdist interview ahead of the Street Fighter movie’s release. Rhodes expressed his deep love for the X-Men franchise and singled out Cyclops as the team’s greatest member. He also shared his longtime connection to the Marvel vs. Capcom crossover games during the conversation.

Rhodes told interviewer Maude Garrett that he nerds out about the X-Men and anything involving Patrick Stewart. He shared his gaming history, saying he would play as Wolverine and Ryu in the crossover titles. Rhodes then passionately defended Cyclops, stating, “I stand by I think Cyclops is the best.” He praised the character’s leadership, adding, “Scott Summers still led a team that was incredibly dysfunctional.”

When fellow cast member Andrew Schulz brought up Jubilee and Gambit as alternatives, Rhodes stayed firm on his pick. He acknowledged Wolverine’s popularity but doubled down on his admiration for Cyclops. Cast member David Dastmalchian also joined the conversation, calling Professor X his favorite.

The interview adds fuel to existing rumors about Rhodes potentially joining Marvel’s X-Men reboot. A report previously highlighted an Instagram Story showing Rhodes signing autographs while the X-Men ‘97 theme played. Fans on social media have since suggested roles ranging from Cable and Colossus to Bishop and Sabretooth for the wrestler.

Rhodes already carries notable comic-book acting credits on his resume. He appeared as Derek Sampson across seven episodes of Arrow during its run. He also previously pursued the role of Black Bolt for Marvel’s Inhumans series back in 2016.

The three-time WWE Champion currently balances wrestling with his role as Guile in Paramount’s Street Fighter. That film hits theaters on October 16, making any Marvel commitment even more intriguing for fans tracking his career.
