It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 promises a terrifying new chapter ahead. The upcoming installment will explore Pennywise’s reign of terror in Derry in 1935, during the Great Depression.

Brad Caleb Kane, the showrunner of It: Welcome to Derry Season 2, has recently teased what the new season has in store. The upcoming season will take place 27 years before the debut season’s 60s setting. The new series will focus on the Bradley Gang, whose story forms part of Derry’s history.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kane teased, “We’re making something very exciting for Season 2 that I can’t talk too much about, but it’s got a different palette. It’s the Depression; it’s 1935. Beyond that, I can’t talk about it, but you can imagine a Warner Bros. gangster picture through the lens of Pennywise and Stephen King. That’s kind of what we’re doing.”

Kane has also confirmed that Season 2 is already in development, adding, “We’re deep into the writers’ room now.” Refusing to elaborate on the plot further, he said, “It’s very exciting. It’s very, very bloody, and it’s very different from Season 1.”

How the Bradley Gang massacre connects to Pennywise’s history in Derry

The Bradley Gang were criminals who robbed stores and banks across Derry during the 1930s. In Stephen King’s novel It, on which the franchise is based, George and Al Bradley led the gang, while George’s wife, Kitty Donahue, accompanied them on their robberies. In 1935, there was a shootout in Derry when the townsfolk ambushed the gang and killed them. According to King’s novel, Pennywise was present when the incident occurred.

There has been no cast announcement for Season 2 yet. However, reports have suggested that Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as Pennywise.

An official release date for It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 has not been confirmed either.
